WILDLIFE CASE STUDIES

In this section of the website I will be looking more closely at some of the wildlife subjects that Pictures of Nature has in its stock library and I have had the pleasure of photographing. The majority of the Case studies are aimed at wildlife within the UK, however as Pictures of Nature's stock expands to more international subjects these will be included in the case studies.

If there are any questions about any of the information found in the case studies or if you would like to know more, please visit my links page or email me.

RED SQUIRREL

The Red squirrel is a native fauna amongst the UK's wildlife, however with the introduction of the Grey Squirell from America and man's effect on the environment its presence in the UK is under threat.
To read more about the Red Squirrel, with information on its habitat, food, behaviour and history, as well as how to identify it please click on the link below, which will take you to a more in depth look at the red squirrel itself

RED DEER

The Red Deer is a majestic creature which the majority of us associate with the Highlands of Scotland. However, due to the removal of the Red Deer's only natural predator, the wolf, deer are now beginning to overpopulate areas leading to problems for the natural vegetation of the land.

OTTER

The Otter is one of the most threatened species of mammal in Europe. After years of man killing otters, directly or indirectly, their numbers have dramtically reduced. However they are growing again due to new protection being brought out.

RED FOX

Foxes are re-nound for their hunting skills as many books have clearly them in a stereotype of the ‘cunning fox’.
A foxes only predator is man, estimates vary but the latest figure shows that around 50,000 foxes are killed by man each year either through hunting and shooting or via road kills. Even so, there seems to be very little effect on the population size.
