ABOUT THE PHOTOGRAPHER

Based in the Lake District, England, Andrew can easily access a diverse range of landscapes and wildlife within the UK and Internationally. Andrew is a naturalist first and foremost. His interest in the Natural World began at an early age but only recently after

inheriting some equipment did his passion for photography develop. Pictures of Nature is the result of Andrew’s time in the field photographing the world we so commonly take for granted. While all areas of nature interest him, Andrew specialises in UK wildlife. The result has been a diverse collection of high quality pictures, from red squirrels to the elusive British Otter and Red Fox.

Andrew is a self taught photographer, relying on experience and information he picks up from books, people and other forms of medium to further his photography. This results in more imaginative and unusual pictures as he doesn’t feel obliged to constantly follow the ‘traditional’ laws of how to take a good photograph. Nonetheless non of the images on Pictures of Nature have been computer manipulated. Although both digital and transparency are taken by Andrew, he feels strongly that rather than manipulate a photograph on a computer, patience, light and behaviour are essential to produce a good photograph.

Pictures of Nature’s mission statement is to create photographs which are unusual and show the wildlife subject in its natural setting. By combining portrait and action shots of wildlife as well as landscape photographs of more rural settings it is Andrew’s hope that it will instil a greater amount of respect and understanding towards the environment and the wildlife in it, which some of us have slowly lost in our busy modern day. Picture’s of Nature hopes to show people the true beauty of the natural world around us through photographs which are a true representation of the subjects surroundings, be this a red fox in a urban garden, to a red deer in the Highlands of Scotland. It is our hope that these short intervals which have been frozen through the camera in the natural world will inspire you.

EQUIPMENT USED

The word photography comes from the Greek words Photos and Grafein. This means Light Writing or writing with light. However as the saying goes ‘don’t blame the tools the workman is too blame’ captures the essence of what equipment is. Photographic equipment is merely the tool available to capture a moment but it doesn’t take the shot itself or compose a stunning picture. The photographer behind the camera achieves that. Therefore even with the cheapest disposable camera a good photograph can be taken. Of course it helps to have the best equipment but what I am trying to say is that it is not necessary. You could buy the most expensive equipment available on the market and still not achieve professional results if you do not have patience, time and understanding of photography and your subject. What I am trying to say is that although the best equipment is useful it is the photographer who produces the image.

The equipment I use at present can be seen below. For reviews of most of these please see my article page. If you have any further questions on equipment or any other area of photography, don’t hesitate to contact me.
